CommunityDNS wins contract to Anycast 198.32.64.0/24
CommunityDNS' provides Anycast services to EP-NET - holder of the old "L" Root IP space.
Following ICANN's announcement to move the L Root away from 198.32.64.12, EP.NET, the holder of the IP space according to ARIN, has contracted with CommunityDNS, an Anycast provider with servers in 10 locations worldwide. EP.NET entered into contract with CommunityDNS during the ICANN meeting in Los Angeles on the 1st November 2007.
CommunityDNS anticipates starting service once the IANA/US Root Zone information has been supplied to it by EP-NET. It is anticiapted service will start by the second week of November and continue until the EP-NET contract is terminated or ICANN request that the old L Root address be turned off.
The transition from old IP address to a new IP address takes a significant period of time to ensure a reliable service to users - and during an exchange on the IETF list existing ROOT operators decide it is common and good practice to keep "old" Root addersses active for significant periods of time, after a change.
